Wunschzettel ============ Version 1.22e - 15.01.1996, by Thorsten Lange, Hamburg, Germany Copyright 1995-1996 Thorsten Lange and his licensors. All rights reserved. Preface ------- Just a note before we get startet: This program is shareware and must be registered for only $8 if used after a trial period of about 4 weeks. Although the functionallity of this version isn't limitted in any way, registered user have a couple of advantages (for details see chapters "Shareware" and "Registration"). Any suggestions or error reports are welcome (even from unregistered users). My postal and email address can be found in chapter "Registration". Since English is not my native language I apologize for possible "unidiomatic expressions" and errors. So any corrections in this respekt are welcome, too. I hope you will enjoy this program - so much that you gladly register your copy :-) What is "Wunschzettel" good for? -------------------------------- "Wunschzettel" is the German word for"list of wishes". Consequently it is a (check-)list manager. I know, there are more list managers "out there". But this one has a special feature: Each item you once made can be "remembered" by "Wunschzettel". So after entering its name once you can reuse the item over and over again just on two "taps". A typical example is a shopping list. Instead of writing again and again items like "bread", "tooth-paste", ... you can select these items from dynamically growing popup lists. After a short time you have all those things in your popup that you might want to buy. This is also quite usefull to check out if you have forgotten anything to put on your list. More Features of "Wunschzettel": - Supports multiple lists (each one has its own pop-up lists). - On each list, items can be assigned to one (of three) different named categories. - Each item is in one of three states: selected&unchecked, selected&checked, not selected. - Each selected item can have an additional, temporary small note. - Sort selected items by four different criteria: alpha, checked+alpha, categories+alpha, checked+categories+alpha. - Display lists in two different modes: standard or compact. - You can specify the font for display and printout (in printout also the font-size can be selected) There are quite a few areas where Wunschzettel can be found useful - just give it a try! System requierements -------------------- "Wunschzettel" is designed for Newton1.x Systems but since V1.22 Newton2.0 is also supported: It works in landscape mode and has an "i-button" that supports "i++" - see chapter "More good stuff" to read more about it. Basics ------ Each item on a list belongs to one of three categories. So the first thing to do when creating a new list is to name those categories (and of course to name the list itself). Therefore a dialog opens after pressing "New List". The same dialog shows up when tapping on "Change Titles" to change the names of an existing list and its categories. For each categorie there is a button in the status bar which opens a popup menu containing all items of this categories that are not already on the actual list. Tapping an item moves it from this "stock" to the list. At the bottom of this popup there are to special menu items: - "New Item": Open a dialog which allows you to specify the name of a new item - "Select All" : Move all items of this category to the list An item can be in one of three states: 1.) on the list but not checked (i.e. "need to buy/do") 2.) on the list and checked (i.e. "already bought/done") 3.) not on the list but in the "stock" of its category (i.e. "might want to buy/do again") So, at first you put an item on the list (unchecked) after it is done you check it and at last you put all checked items back in the stocks using the "put back" button at the left of the action button (envelope). If you want to modify an existing item just double-tap it and a dialog appears allowing you to rename it or change its category. To permanently erease an item scrub it on the list. When there are more items on the list than can be displayed, scroll arrows appear on the right hand side: one to scroll half a page and one to scroll to the beginning/end. The standard arrows are used for switching between lists. Tips&Tricks/Limitations ----------------------- - The "i-button" is used for opening the about-box (where the registration code can be entered) and the preferences-dialog. You can select the font for the different display modes and for printing. There is also an option called "Delayed Saving": Wunschzettel saves all modifications periodically to avoid loss of data when you have to reset yout Newton (i.e. due to heap shortage). With large lists this will cause a short - but noticeable pause. With this slider you can control the delay after a modification until the list is saved. Apart from this setting a list will always be saved when switching to another list or closing "Wunschzettel". - On Newton1.x systems dragging a dialog is simmilar to Newton2.0: you have a small spot at the top border for drgagging. - Do not check "Categories" (displaying the category after each item) when modifying the name of a category because in this case it is very slow. - I recommend not to remove a memory card when "Wunschzettel" is displaying a list that is located on that store. If you have to, please wait after the last modification for at least the time you specified at "Delayed Saving" before removing the card to avoid loss of data! Version history --------------- V1.22 first English release Shareware --------- This program is shareware. So you may try it for free for about four weeks. After this trial period you have to pay a (little) fee for using it at a regular basis. Since you should be able to really try this program there are no functional limitations when using an unregistered copy! But some people need a "motivation" to register their copy which is very easy (just put money in an envelope and send it to my address listed below) and cheap - see chapter "Registration" for details. So registered users have the following advantages: 1.) Email support for questions/problems 2.) For the present I email new versions of "Wunschzettel" to registered users - if they like and their email account is capable of receiving emails of that size. 3.) When using this program a notification will be displayed that you have to register your copy. The more you use this program the more often the notifications are displayed. After entering the registration code no more messages are displayed. 4.) Printouts (and faxes) with an unregistered copy will contain a notice that they were made using an unregistered version. And everybody has the advantage that I will continue working on the program. Registration ------------ Registration costs $8 and is limited to one person (name entered in the Newton). Registration is easy. Just send a letter to Thorsten Lange Tivoliweg 7 D-21079 Hamburg GERMANY containing: 1.) Your name and address. 2.) Exact name that you have entered in the user preferences of your Newton. (needed for the registration code; blanks may be omitted) 3.) Program name and version (and where you have found it would be interesting) 4.) Email address where the registration code should be sent to. 5.) Money (cash); see above. Sorry, I cannot accept cheques or credit cards! I will reply with the registration code that can be entered in the "info-box": Just press the "Code"-button and fill in the code at the lower left corner. Afterwards your copy is registered and the advantages mentioned above will take effect. The code will be valid for all future shareware-versions of Wunschzettel. If your name changes (i.e. marriage) just send me an email with the new name and I will return the new code number. If you are a CIS member you can use GO SWREG, ID 9402 to register for $10. It's $2 extra because there are additional fees and $10 is now the minimal price at SWREG - on the other hand you save postage expenses. Please email me the exact owner name (for the registration code, as 2. above) if it differs from the name you used in the SWREG procedure. For further informations please contact Thorsten_Lange@magicvillage.de (preferred) CIS: 101353,2024 More good stuff --------------- > AddressAccess < (Shareware, $22) The faster card file. AddressAccess supplies an easy and efficient interface to the cards stored in your Newton - no more using the slow overview function to find a person's address. AddressAccess features: - Sort your cards by first name, last name or company (or as marked on the cards). - Address is formatted according to the country. - Nearly infinitely long notes for each card are possible. - Switching to the built-in card file. - Direct dialling of phone numbers without any further dialogs. - Direct beaming of cards. - Direct beaming of your card (just define it once). - And a lot of user-configurable options: - Start AddressAccess when tapping the names button. - Temporarily disable the current area code and the dialing prefix - Select whether "Search All" (global search) shall use AddressAccess or the built-in card file After being quite a success in Germany an English version is now available. Very soon V1.50 will be available which will offer lots of new features like comfortable editing of cards that will make it an indespensible replacement of the built-in names app. It will support Newton2.0 and 1.x systems. > i++< (Shareware, $8 / $10 on CIS-SWREG) With i++ you can extent/customize the menu shown when tapping an "i-Button". Menu items can be included to open applications (without opening the extras drawer) or to invoke other special actions (like changing the screen orientation). Those info buttons are present in most Newton2.0 applications, since it is a standard component of the 2.0 user interface. So "your" special purpose menu will be reachable in most situations without getting in your way when you do not need it. In my opinion i++ is a "natural" extention of the Newton2.0 user interface. Please note: i++ does not support Newton1.x systems! > Xchange < (Freeware) is a small currency-conversion table, similar to the built-in one in Newton 1.x but with additional features: - Exchange rates are saved (just enter the rate once and use it during your vacation). - Store as as many different rates as you like (as long there is any free memory left). - Rates and currencies can be named. Available in German and in English. Copyright notice ---------------- Wunschzettel is copyright 1995-1996 Thorsten Lange and his licensors. All rights reserved.
