Welcome to EZPresenter for Newton: It supports Apple Newton Products; eMate 300, MP 2000 & MP 2100 (including German version). Mac diskette contains the below 4 files. -ReadmeFirst (This file) -EZPresenter.pkg : Application (as a soup) to display PowerPoint 97 slides on Newton. -EZShowCard.pkg : Driver to run Newton application. -Demo.pkg : One example file showing how it works on Newton Screen. Works without ez2tv or ez2vga card. PC diskette contains the below 3 files additionally. -EZXfer.ppa : Application (PowerPoint Add-in) to transfer PowerPoint 97 slides into Newton.pkg -Header.pkg : Utility to help EZXfer to finish its job -Snbd6W9s.dll : Utility to help EZXfer to finish its job ************************ VERY IMPORTANT **************************** Make sure to use your eMate/Newton adapter when running the card, otherwise you might end up with problem. Plug AC adapter into eMate/Newton. Turn off eMate/MP2000 screen first by using power switch, then insert the card. DO NOT pull out the card when eMate/MP2000 is power is ON. First turn off eMate/MP2000, and then take out the card from the slot. When you push PCMCIA eject button, then eMate/MP2000 might turn on the screen by itself. Turn off one more time, and then pull out the card. Otherwise it might bring static discharge to Newton. In case of NewtonMP2000/2100, use >>the upper slot<<, which is near to AC Adapter and Serial Port, for the card. The static discharge wipes the internal PCMCIA State and trashes its bus identity and forces the chip into reset. When it comes out of reset, the CPU can't talk to it any more because it has lost its identity. If end up with this trouble, then have eMate/Newton overnight without any power supply by taking out Battery pack from Newton or by disconnecting rechargeable battery from eMate (You should open the small back panel by using torque driver), and unplug AC adaptor. A hard reset >>may<< not be necessary (which would save a backup/restore cycle). Do not use the driver from a PC storage card. It will cause an error. The driver >>MUST<< be installed on internal flash. When you connect EZ2TV to TV only, then VGA TERMINATOR should be on the connector. *************************VERY IMPORTANT****************************** Installation on Newton: ------------------------------ First delete all previous releases of EZShow drivers from your system. Load 'EZShowCard.pkg' into your Newton using NCU or Newton Package Installer and insert your EZShow card. You will see a card 'slip' appear showing the name of the product and some product specific details. You will also see a control panel (3 icons) appear at the top of the screen, just to the right of the time & date. Newton is now ready to display images via ez2tv or ez2vga on your monitor (VGA, TV, S-Video or composite as appropriate). As installed, you can use your new EZShow card to display a real-time copy of the Newton screen. You can turn on the screen display by tapping the left-most button on the newly displayed control panel. Tap this button again to stop the screen display. The center button pauses the screen display whilst leaving the most recent image visible. The rightmost button can be used to drag the control panel into a more convenient location as desired. Note: You should have the latest system patches installed for your unit. For the MP2000 the latest patch is 717145 and for the eMate 300 it is 737041. (Look in Extras:[i]:Memory Info to confirm your ROM version number). The driver works on the MP2100 as shipped. How to run EZPresenter --------------------------------- To run EZPresenter, DON'T CLICK the control panel (3 icons) on Newton, but just click EZPresenter Icon in EXTRA BOX. When you click 'HIDE' icon, then thumbnail view on Newton becomes the blank one and the external screen becomes the white screen. You may choose any color for your use on white board. -Pen Color annotation. You may annotate on top of slide and it could be erased by clicking 'CLEAR' icon. -'EZ' icon enables you to goto NotePad during using EZPresenter. How to import the existing PowerPoint slides from Windows PowerPoint97 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Installation on Win 95 PowerPoint 97. Copy Snbd6w9s.dll to your desktop's \Windows\System directory. Use Find function of Explorer to find where is powerpnt.exe file. The default directory for this is \Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office. Create a new folder (name: EZShow) at inside the folder where your desktop machine currently stores the powerpnt.exe file. Place the header.pkg file there. Also copy EZXfer.ppa file there. If this is not done correctly, then Newton PKG file creation will fail. Run PowerPoint 97 and click on the "Tools" menu. Select 'Add-Ins...'. In the dialog box, click 'Add New'. Use the file functions to find EZXfer.ppa. After finding EZXfer, select it and click OK. If you have macro warning enabled, you will see another dialog box with the option 'Enable Macros'. Select this to allow EZXfer to work. You should find EZXfer now listed as an available add-in. Click 'Close' to complete installation. Please ensure that you have installed the Microsoft Office GIF translator. You can verify that this option is installed by checking the file type choices offered under the Save As... dialog within PowerPoint. If you do not have the GIF option listed, install Microsoft Office 97 again, choosing the "Add/Remove Components" option. Select the "Converters and Filters" option and click "Change". Then select "Graphics Filters" and select "Change" again. Find the "GIF" option and ensure that it is checked off. Then click OK to proceed with the installation. The one limitation on installing the files is that the Newton requires _double_ the size of the package to do the install. It does this because it first loads the .pkg file with the slides and then it _copies_ it into the EZPresenter storage soup. How to Transfer PowerPoint Slide/Title/Note into Newton. First run PowerPoint 97 and open the presentation you want to transfer into your Newton. Click the "File" menu and then click either 'Save as EZPresenter Newton...'. Wait until the Flag windows come up to say 'Conversion Process Completed'. For Newton transfer, a .pkg file of the same name (as the .ppt file you had open) is created at the same directory where the .ppt file is. Connect Newton to your desktop machine (Win95) in the normal way and use NCU to install this .pkg file into Newton. You may need to reset your handheld device, especially if this is the first use of EZPresenter software. How to import Mac version PowerPoint into Newton. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- The below is the copy of email from "William Harmon, M.D." , who is one of Users. We thanks to his effort to try. - EZShow QUOTE ========== I was able to make my presentation "slides" on my Mac and eventually get them into the Newton. Here is what I did: 1. First, I made the slides in Power Point 4.0 (I had previously avoided Microsoft products but I have to admit that it was quite easy to use). When I finished, I saved it as a regular Power Point presentation and copied it to a PC formatted disk in my floppy drive (All Macs running System 8.0 and higher can recognize and use PC formatted disks. In case you are wondering, I am using a Mac Duo 2300c with system 8.1, but this should work on almost any Mac). 2. I then took the floppy to a friend's PC that is running Windows 95 and Office 97. He copied the presentation file to his hard disk and opened it in the Power Point version included in Office 97. Although Microsoft has made sure that it is difficult to open other companies' files in their software, they have made the Mac and PC version of Office compatible. After conversion, the presentation showed up just fine on his PC. 3. He had already installed the applications for saving Windows Power Point applications in Newton format (EZXfer.ppa, Header.pkg, and Snbd6W9s.dll) into his Power Point. He then saved the presentation as "Save as EZPresenter Newton". He copied that file back onto the disk. 4. I copied that file from the disk onto my Mac. I then dragged it onto a small application named PackType (www.netaxs.com) which converts it into a pkg file. I then loaded it into my Newton via the usual NCU. Comments: It worked well. Despite the transfer of file type from Mac to PC to PC pkg to Mac pkg to Newton, nothing was lost in any of the slides. I could have transferred the file from PC to Newton directly if I had Newton Connection Utilities on the PC. I just didn't want to fool around with the PC serial connections. It is conceivable that it can all be done on the Mac. If Virtual PC is installed on the Mac and Office97 is installed in the PC section of the hard drive, the files can be dragged in and out of Virtual PC, eliminating the need to find someone with an appropriate PC. I have a Mac available that I can try this on and I will do it this weekend. Also, the Newton is very sensitize to the card. Users should know that the Newton turns itself on when you click open the ejector rod. You should remind them to turn off Newton before physically ejecting. UNQUOTE============= Known Bugs & Limitations: (EZShow Card v.1.02) ------------------------------------------------------------------- Release specific: This release fixes a bug that sometimes caused the system to not recognize the card (with error -10059) on re-insertion of the card after a low battery condition. Inserting a card whilst the card slip is displayed doesn't update the card slip. Two cards support: Although the use of two EZShow cards in the MP2000 is not fully supported at this time, it is possible to use two EZShow cards. This enables simultaneous display on two screens (say EZPresenter on one and the Newton screen on the other). Two-card usage currently has the following known bugs; When the second card is inserted, its control panel overlays the first. But you would know which one is which when you move the panel. General: Switching off the screen display via the control panel doesn't immediately turn off the screen. Power is removed about 30 seconds after the request has been made. It is good for safety -- to give you time to correct if you click 'off' icon by mistake. NEC Multisync monitors have to be grounded at pin 5 of the 15-pin connector. If pin 5 is not grounded the monitor goes into a test mode. Put an adapter (which grounds pin 5)in series with Multisync monitor and it will fix the problem - sync. Some of DELL model shows same symptom. InFocus Projector - some Model has Auto-sizing function, which will not work properly. Put into Manual size adjusting. Support & Information: ------------------------------ For further information or assistance you should contact: When contacting EZShow support you should have ready: Serial number of ez2tv, ez2vga, or EZPresenter Card The driver release number you are using (available by tapping the EZShow Card Icon). The Newton device name and ROM version number (Extras:[i]:Memory Info) A full description of the problem. The more detailed information could bring out the earlier answer with the correct solution.
