The button is displayed in the top right corner of the screen, and is available from any application on your Newton OS system.  Tapping the button pops up a list of applications and books installed on your MessagePad.  Tapping an application or book opens it.  Tapping and holding the button until you hear a squeak pops up a list of commonly used functions (New Meeting, New To Do, New Note, New Checklist, New Outline, and Sleep).
