Requirements
NewtonÕs Reflexª requires the following:
¥ Newton 2.0 OS (will not work with 1.3 or earlier) 
¥ 36K memory for NewtonÕs Reflexª & NewtonÕs Reflex Actionsª
¥ An additional 46K for NewtonÕs Reflex Prefs (needed only for initial customization)

What is NewtonÕs Reflexª?
NewtonÕs Reflex is a comprehensive enhancement to the Newton 2.0Õs interface. It lets you create up to three custom menus on which you can place frequently accessed applications (such as the styles palette or Pocket Quicken) and NewtonÕs Reflex Actionsª. See below for an explanation of NewtonÕs Reflex Actions.

Installation of NewtonÕs Reflex on a Macintosh
Please note that if you have never before communicated between your Macintosh and your Newton, you will get an error message while running the Newton Package Installer, telling you that a connection could not be established because the Apple Modem Tool is not installed. We have included AMT and the associated AppleTalk ADSP Tool in a separate folder for your convenience. If you drop both of these extensions onto a closed System Folder, they will be placed in the Extensions folder. You will now be able to successfully use the Newton Package Installer. 

Customization
NewtonÕs Reflex Prefs allows the you to add or remove actions from any Reflex menu, turn individual menus on and off, route (beam or mail) NewtonÕs Reflex Actions to other NewtonÕs Reflex users, get more information on specific actions, and customize the item order of each menu. NewtonÕs Reflex Prefs also has an online help manual to answer questions on the setup and optimal use of NewtonÕs Reflex. It is not necessary to keep the NewtonÕs Reflex Prefs application after youÕve customized NewtonÕs Reflex to your taste, but you may want to keep it for the online help manual.

What are NewtonÕs Reflex Actionsª?
NewtonÕs Reflex Actions are shortcuts that turn an otherwise arduous task into a one-step process! They can perform tasks in a single tap that would otherwise force you to navigate through several steps. Tasks like connecting to a PC, changing the pen size, or receiving a beam or a fax can easily be added to a menu for readily available, single-tap access.

NewtonÕs Reflex Actions can also add functionality to your Newton that would not otherwise be available. An example of this is the ÒGo to Date in NotesÓ action, which will instantly scroll the notepad to a date of your choosing. Another example is ÒCopy to NotepadÓ, which copies the current selection to a new note in the notepad. Please see the manual for descriptions of each of the actions included in NewtonÕs Reflex.

Expandability
NewtonÕs Reflex is highly expandable. Users with a minimum of Newton programming experience can write their own NewtonÕs Reflex Actions. NewtonÕs Reflex Actions can be created with the Newton Toolkit, or in NS Basic, a Newton-based programming environment. 

NewtonÕs Reflex Actions can be added or removed independent of the program itself. You only keep the actions you use, and you can add third-party actions at any time. Expect to see several commercial Newton titles shipping with NewtonÕs Reflex Actions in coming months. Users with NewtonÕs Reflex on their Newtons will be able to take greater advantage of these applications, as well as use NewtonÕs Reflex Actions created as shareware and for Public Domain.
