CardCloser version .1======================Yet Another Newton hack from Bill Kearney.©1994 William Kearney & The Novanto GroupThis is a really simple one. This app is meant for card installation only. It's useless to install it anywhere BUT on a card. If you don't have memory card for your Newton, DON'T install this app. This app closes the Backup Slip when a card is inserted. The backup slip is that dialog that appears when you insert a card. I never really want to see this dialog when I'm swapping card and the extra tap on the close box just gets in my way.So I wrote this app. It's Install/Remove polite and will not leave anything behind in your Newton. It does not create any soups. You can put it on your card, eject and reinsert the into a friend's Newton and CardCloser will work! It won't alter the Newton since the app follows the card. You can't turn CardCloser off and on. If it's installed, to does it's thing. If you don't want CardCloser to close the Backup slip on inserts, then remove it. CardCloser will not affect any other operation of your Newton. It only closes the Backup slip during a card insertion. It leaves it alone if you open it yourself from the Extras drawer.Credits=======This was not my idea originally. Scott Zimmerman (Zz) harped on this (and a few other) annoying little 'feature' of the Newton OS. Since most developers never write perfect code the first time, card ejects tend to happen a lot. I always code on a 1mb SRAM card. This way, I can erase it when I bollux up an Install/Remove script. It also keeps my 4mb data card safe from errant code.Disclaimer==========This product is currently in beta test. It's not known to have any bugs or defects that would impair the use of your Newton. However, it is possible something unforseen could go wrong. We cannot be held responsible for any loss of info or the usage of your Newton. Please back up your Newton before installing this package!Revision history:=================7/25 - version .1Initial release to the public. My first bit of code since I broke my collarbone. I've been a rather vocal critic of user support for shareware. I certainly don't envision making a mint off of these products, but it's nice to see folks put their dollars behind my efforts. If you like products like CallLogger and want to see others of it's kind, you need to support the authors who create them. So, please, send your fees today! If not to me, at least to another author. This was a quick hack for my own personal use. I've released it to the ShareWare system. I retain all rights to it. If you'd like to distribute it, you must get my e-mail permission first. If you've got critcisms or suggestions about any of my products, I welcome feedback. Bugs reports are also appreciated. If you like it, but don't want to cough up a few bucks, at least send me a e-mail message saying you've seen it and like it.
